After sultry 'Moon' landing, Mexican thesp seeks shuttle to Hollywood

Serradilla is a household name in Mexico, where she’s starred in telenovelas like “Linea nocturna” (2006) and “Drenaje profundo” (2010), and has performed in theater including productions of “Sin Cura” by Manolo Caro and, most recently, the Mexican version of “Venus in Fur” by David Ives. Her film credits include a supporting role in Emilio Portes’ comedy “Pastorela,” winner of Mexico’s 2012 Ariel for best picture, and Jose Pepe Bojorquez’s “Hidden Moon,” her first English-language pic.

EURO ROOTS

Born to Spanish parents in Mexico, Serradilla, 35, spent some of her formative years in Spain; the family moved back to Mexico when she was 15. There, she started modeling and working in commercials, and starred in her first TV series, Argentine teen telenovela “Chiquititas,” at 19.

“Hidden Moon” (2012) was shot in Mexico and Los Angeles, and her performance as a beautiful, mysterious Latin woman who shows up at a funeral and starts a dramatic chain of events earned her critical attention in Mexico, where Universal distributed the pic; a U.S. release is pending.

FRENCH TREAT?

Serradilla also speaks French and English, and says she wants to make a film in France one day. “French cinema fascinates me,” she says.

IMPRESSIVE RANGE

Versatility is a key to her success: She was one of the leads in the 2008 Mexican version of “Desperate Housewives,” and her theater credits include “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Blackbird” by David Harrower and “Eurydice” by Sarah Ruhl.
